Can I use a fisheye lens for a Nikon D50 on a Nikon D5000?

Thursday Jul 29, 2010

I don’t know if that’s a dumb question or not. I’ve been told that generally, you can use different Nikon lenses for any Nikon camera.

Yes you can!
However, if the fisheye lens in question doesn’t have a built in autofocus motor, it wont autofocus with the D5000.

Have fun and good luck!

You cannot use canon lenses on a Nikon though.

Nikon F-mount lenses going back decades will work on modern Nikon camera to varying degrees. However, with the D5000, you need an AF-S or AF-I lens for autofocus to function. The D50 has a focus motor in the body. The D5000 requires the focus motor to be mounted in the lens (the AF-S and AF-I designation).

If your lens is a non AF-S or AF-I lens, you can manually focus the lens on your camera. Since it’s a fish eye lens, focus isn’t that critical since fish eye lenses have a huge depth of field.
