A friend of mine wants me to use my NikonD50 (d-SLR) to make color transparencies of her jewelry. Can I do that? How many steps to this process?
I’m not sure why your friend would want to make transparencies from digital images. She would skip the cost, expense, and time of the transfer steps, _AND_ get far better quality images in terms of sharpness, by taking taking the photos directly using slide film in a regular film camera.
If she _REALLY_ wants to have slides made from digital picture files, find a photo lab in your area that deals with professional photographers. I’ve had to go this route once. What they’ll most likely do (what they did with my work) is make a large paper print from the digital file, then use take a picture of that using slide film.
I’ve tried making slides using overhead transparency sheets in my printer. Even using the highest quality print dpi, the results were useless…

If she needs to make a "slide show" presentation to a group meeting, she could always store the images digitally on a CD in a PowerPoint presentation – most meeting places have digital projectors these days….

As an ameture to SLR, can I prefer D50 instead of D70s? If so, what are all the features I may feel lacked in D50? If I buy D50 once, I’m not looking to upgrade it so early. Please suggest me.
there’s a great summary on this here – http://www.shutterbug.com/equipmentreviews/amateur_digital_slrs/1205nikon/
As an owner of a D70, I’d say there isn’t a lot of difference for 95% of the time. For taking the kind of pictures most of us take most of the time, the D50 is more than up for the job. Easier controls to do the really fancy things like bracketing is no great loss. I’d pick both up in a camera shop and play around with them, see which one you are happier holding. As with all cameras, feature list means nothing if you’re not happy and relaxed with the camera in your hands. A lot of people have said the D50 kit lens – 18-55mm(?) or so isn’t that great, the one that comews with the D70 – the 18-70 is a lovely lens, maybe you should consider getting the D50 with the 18-70 lens. Best of luck.

D-SLR newbie w/ NikonD50 that came w/basic 18-55mm lens. Looking for all-purpose lens, especially one that will allow me greater zoom capacity than current. New Nikon / Nikkor 18-200mm selling for about $750 w/ a wait of a few weeks. Seems to be getting great reviews, but is it worth it? As a novice D-SLR user, I’d love to only have to carry one lens for everything.
The answer is YES. The lenses mentioned by the other poster may be "better" if you plan on making posters or making a living off the pictures but the "better" of those lenses is offset by the fact that the 18-200 will cover almost every photographic situation and will produce excellent photos.
Take it from me, I drag along three different lenses in my camera bag that I bought before the 18-200 came out.
