what can i get and have good results
You can buy the superb 18-200 mm VR lens. It covers most of the focal lengths you need and it is a superb lens.
I use it mostly for shooting editorial assignments.
Your D90 has excellent low-light ISO performance. It even out performs my D300, as you can see (I listed the newest version of the D300, the D300s).
A sequence of 199 still images cropped/centred with photoshop, joined with premier and smoothed with virtualdub. All shots taken with a NikonD50 and a 1000mm MTO-11CA reflector lens. This is a Royal Jordanian Airline A340-200 cruising high above Lincolnshire.

You really make our lives easy by writing things clearly. I’m assuming that you’re looking for a 300mm prime? For sports you realistically going to need a f2.8 but thats not going to happen. This MF 2.8 prime is selling for over a grand! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Gorgeous-Nikon-AI-S-300mm-F2-8-ED-AIS-Manual-Nikkor_W0QQitemZ290323495921QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCamera_Lenses?hash=item4398a0fbf1&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177&_trkparms=240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50 you see the problem now?
The only one I can find in your price range is an ancient F mount 300mm f4.5, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nikkor-P-300MM-F4-5-pre-AI-lens_W0QQitemZ390034573060QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Photography_Film_Cameras_ET?hash=item5acfdf4704&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A2|39%3A1|72%3A1683|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50 thats from before 1976, no AF, no AI.
This is a good, cheap old lump, but ok. 300/4.5 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nikon-300mm-f4-5-Ai-lens_W0QQitemZ180367864696QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Photography_Film_Cameras_ET?hash=item29fec33378&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A2|39%3A1|72%3A1690|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50
Basically theres a lot of old F mount glass going on ebay for cheap, most are f4 or 4.5, the 2.8s fetch a lot more. Alternatively you can try the Sigma 300mm f2.8 EX for Nikon F mount, but they’re more expensive too.
This video describes the 2-3 recommended lenses when you get your first DSLR. Get the 18-55 or the 18-200, then get the 50mm.

Wolf Camera said I have to buy Nikon lenses for it. But I’m looking at a store online and they have a bundle that includes a Sigma 28-70 lens for Canon & a Sigma 70-300 tele lens for Canon.
So, are these lenses compatible? If so, what do I need to look for when buying a lens for this camera? And what are some of the downfalls to buying this lens as opposed to the Nikon lens?
You have to use lenses that have the same mount as the D50. Off-brand lenses will work if they are compatible. A lens for Canon will never work on a Nikon. Also not all Nikon lenses will work either. Nikon has different mounts for the old manual slr’s, autofocus slr’s and digital slr’s. There are even some sifferent mounts within those groups. If you’re not sure…ask a qualified salesperson for help….and never force a lens onto the mount…you’ll damage both the lens and the body.
A collection of Sailing photos of this year’s Aegean Rally. All photos are taken from inside a sailboat that didn’t compete to the race. The camera used was a NikonD50 and the lens was a Sigma 70-300 DG Apo.
