I have some lenses – 28mm AI, 50mm 1.8, 105mm 2.5 AIS. Will they work on the said cameras?
No autofocus (they are manual focus lenses so no camera on Earth can autofocus them) and no automatic light metering on a D50, D70s or D80.
Consider upgrading your camera choice to a D200, D300 or D700 or the D2 and D3 series of cameras which can meter with these older lenses by entering their specs into the camera through the on-screen menus.

My friend and I wanna do light graffiti with her Nikon D50. So I’m asking how do you put a slow shutter on?
Hey,
Set your mode to M (Manual) or S (Shutter).
Here is a good tutorial on how to do light graffiti with good examples – http://the-digital-photographer.blogspot.com/2009/11/light-painting.html
It’s easy!
trying to link it up to take images that appear on the laptop as you do them as we dont have a memory card that works. do you need to get the nikon software to do this?
I have the Nikon D70 attached to my computer right now. I have taken out the memory card and tested it to see if can do what you suggest. The computer doesn’t seem to recognise the camera without a memory card in and I don’t think any software is going to change that.
Maybe this official Nikon specification page might help.
I have had a nikon d50 for a awhile now, my ex bought it for me so I am thinking about selling it for something else, it seems EVERYONE has a canon so I look at what canon was around the same price as my camera and it said a canon xti digital rebel. Is this a good camera? should i sell it and buy that one?
Everyone drives a Ford Explorer too, but that doesn’t make it a Porsche Cayenne
It all depends on where you look too. Both of my neighbors have Nikons. One big factor in the low end Canon rage is WalMart. They sell both online, but whenever I go into Wal-Mart they prominently display the Canons, and the Nikons are nowhere to be found. Don’t be deceived by Wal-Marketing.
If you plan to step up later, I recommend the Nikon. If this is your last stop for a good while, you might want to look at the Canon.
I like the low end Canons, but prefer the high end Nikons. That’s just me. Both companies make good cameras across the board.
I am new to professional photography. I just enrolled in Nyip and I need my first digital slr camera. I am considering nikon d40, d60, d70, d50, or even d40x. I am also considering some canon rebels or eos d60 and what not. Help!!! What are some good choices and how many mefapixels should I go for?
I bought a Nikon D60 and a Nikor 18-200 af vr lens for about $1200. That combination is working fantastically well for me. I got it all from B&H photo in NY. You would be very happy with this setup.
AND WHICH IS BETTER??????
Have a look at the reviews and sample photos here …

The D40 is a new, updated version of the D50, in a smaller body. The D40 has more features than the D50, but the D50 is also a very good camera, especially if you get a great lens for it. D50’s are selling very cheap now as well, so you could put the money you save towards a better lens.
